One is currently working in R&D dept of Multinational
company.
One is doing lectureship at good institute with decent pay.
One is exploring further plans for post doc programs.
1. What is PhD thesis Topic?
The who got the industry job has planned in that way. If
your thesis work and research paper are in line with the current industry
problems then your chances for the company placement becomes higher. Even if
your PhD topic is pure academic in nature like finding some mathematical
formula for a very difficult physics, try to find industry application and
publish something on it, or write about it in the thesis.
2. Where you want to go?
If you are interested in being academician, remain in the
institute for lectureship/research then PhD is best options.
Best thing about PhD is (this people think as most negative
point), you will get plenty of time. the duration of PhD is sufficient for you
to decide where you want to go. but this happens with a good plan and back up
by IIT tag.
3. Connect with Industry.
If you are in PhD try to connect with industries and try to
see what problems they are facing. If get the sponsored project by them you
will learn a lot and you get extra pay/scholarship as well.
Even if dont get the sponsored project, connect with your
industry experts and offer them to solve problem for free. yes then only you
get attention.
4. Your Guide is godfather.
in PhD it matters the most who is your academic boss. While
in BTech or even MTech it may matter little (more in Mtech than in BTech) , in
PhD the entire course will roam around how good guidance you are getting. Being
in IIT, this problem gets solved to great extent. Many profs at old IITs are
themselves reviewer of international journals, thus they are known worldwide
for their technical contributions.
